If 3 year olds could vote- I’d beat Trump

Last Saturday, when it was an amazing 70 degree March day in Minnesota I had the honor of offering my Coaching Kids through Big Feelings class to over 40 parents. People who could have been outside. People who could have been doing anything more selfish than learning to get past their own stuff and give their kids a better shot at emotional wellbeing.

It was a fantastic tonic after consuming too much Trump rhetoric. No fear mongering. No hate. No judgement. Ok..swearing but not at people…just with people. And there was beer.

Here are my campaign promises…please read them to all available 3 year olds.

I  promise that whatever sacrifices need to be made- your needs will be met. You will be safe and fed and nurtured.

I promise that you will be when the appropriate time comes, you will be offered education in training on needs vs wants and delayed gratification.

I promise that naps or car seats and holding someone’s hand in the parking lot will always be done for your own safety and with as much consent and respect as can be arranged.

I promise that you will always be cared for by someone who feels capable, confident and connected to meeting your needs…most of the day.

I promise that you will not be held to unreasonable standards of behavior and accommodation in order to make grown ups feel better.

I promise that your dominant learning style of play, physical activity and mass destruction will be supported free of adult restraints of time, order and predictability.

I cannot promise to always cut your toast the right direction or remember not to break the banana but I do promise that your upset will be heard and honored for at least 5 minutes before offering you an option of moving on.

I promise you will get another chance. Many other chances. A new chance every hour. I promise you will be allowed to be 3…for a whole year.

Thanks to all who came- it does inspire me how hard parents are willing to work to give their kids a better life. Maybe they won’t be richer, maybe we won’t be able to afford private college but this generation of kids will have it better because they will be heard and seen and loved.

Given the enormous popularity of this class I added a couple more late spring offerings. Check out the list at universe.com/marriage-geek
