What is this Marriage Geek thing all about?

Notes from a Marriage Geek is a conversation about having kids and being married and building deep connections. It is about balance and attachment and forgiveness. It is about overcoming the hurts of the past and being compassionate with yourself along the way.

I started writing Notes from a Marriage Geek 8 years ago. First it was just an email newsletter and a year later I added Facebook and Twitter. Right now my FB followers are hovering just under 3,000. Love watching those numbers grow and seeing my reach grow. Did you know that 93% of my fans are women? I want to keep working on developing my work with men but also know that many fans are sharing regularly with their spouses. I have fans in Canada, the UK, Australia and South Africa. (I know- weird, right?) 4 people follow me in Arabic but then 2 follow me in English Pirate too…not sure what to  make of that. More people follow me from Manhattan than from W St Paul but then again W St Paul is pretty small.

Writing weekly pushes me to figure out something to say. I want to be honest about the struggles but supportive and positive at the same time. On social media I try and only share the best articles I read and I read a lot.

When I look at my own path I see that I am mostly trying to be the best parent and partner and human being I can figure out to be and building this community is part of my own growth.

15 years ago when I started my private practice, people who knew me worried that it wouldn’t be a good fit for me. I like being part of a team and am certainly less introverted than most therapists. Creating a marketing “platform” has give me an audience- here and in my workshops.

In the year ahead I know I have to find a way to offer my work not only here in the Twin Cities but to those 5 people in Morocco who are also looking for ways to “STOP YELLING”.

On Monday I am offering “Amazing Marriage 101” for something like the 20th time. It evolves as I learn, as I stumble upon new research or have an Aha! Moment at home or in the office. It is my favorite- maybe because it was my first, maybe because the feedback is so powerful. People say they leave feeling more positive and hopeful about their relationship. They tell me that in fights and through tough times they say to each other “remember what Maureen said.” I admit it, that feels awesome!

I will keep figuring stuff out and sharing it as I go. Thanks for being a part of my journey. Please always feel free to ask questions or make requests. I don’t take new clients very often but I love playing matchmaker. maureen@marriagegeek.com  I have this fantastic intern Michele Michaelson who is teaching me about how to supervise and lead in a whole new way.

If you have found one of my workshops or articles helpful, please share it. It is mostly through your personal appreciation that others find me. (Hoping to hit that big 3000 for my anniversary/birthday week.)

Thanks for being such a great audience.

Maureen
