I love doing these workshops. 17 years ago, when I started my private practice, people who knew me best cautioned me that I was too extroverted to do great working solo. Private practice has been great for me- it allowed me to put my kids in daycare only 3 days a week and set my schedule around their needs. It allowed me to grow and deepen my skills by focusing on new skills and communities. Because people choose me through my blog and my involvement in the community, my clients are an amazing collection of human beings that I love serving. And… people were right. Private practice is lonely and quiet and introverted. So… I started offering workshops.

In my workshops I get to be funny and talk mostly about me and swear like a sailor and have a beer and deeply impact a whole room full of people in one session. Workshops are storytelling and improv and stand up and grad school all rolled into one.  It feels like a party and it feeds my ego. And my workshops offer people the chance to realize that their situation is way more common than they ever imagined. When people laugh at the same jokes or ask the question you wished you had asked it helps people see we’re all in this together.

I invite you to join me for some personal development work in the new year.

Every January I offer a couple’s goal setting workshop. I love doing this. It is different than most of my offerings because you spend lots of time talking to your partner. I guide you through a few activities that help you hone in on what you want to take on in your relationship, for your family in the New Year. I help you negotiate some decisions, some baby steps and put them in action. The best thing is we focus on strengths and not problems. Check it out- New Year’s Marriage Boost 2020

Part of my New Year’s intention is to integrate more mediation into my practice- divorce, separation, co-parenting decisions. As my first baby step I am offering Do I Stay or Do I Go- the Divorce Decision.

How do you decide to end your relationship? How much trying is enough? Is it possible to know for sure? To not feel guilty?Marriage counseling is an amazing tool but it doesn’t always work. Some problems respond well to therapy and others just don’t. Sometimes we are staying for all the wrong reasons and sometimes we are staying for now.

No one can answer that question for you but I’ve pulled together some research and some discussion points on making a decision that is best for you and your family. Both as a psychologist and a qualified family mediator, I am committed to helping families find creative, healthy solutions to life transitions.  Let’s do some brainstorming.
